End of the Year 1st Grade Curriculum Assessment: Science, Bible, Reading, and Gra
This is the second part in my review of Monkey's first grade school curriculum. Go here for part one. Moving straight to the point: Easy Grammar 3: I like this book, but we let it fall by the wayside this year. It was a little challenging for Monkey, since it is a third-grade level. She could have handled it, had we dedicated enough time to it, but we ended up letting it go about 1-2 months into the school year. We'll try again next year. Spectrum Reading Grade 1: I did not like this book. The reading lessons are short and a little boring. There really aren't any activities after the reading selections that help expand reading comprehension, phonics, sight words, or anything. I'm actually not sure what the point of this book was. I switched Monkey to simply reading level-appropriate books, and we also supplemented with the Rice Christian Reader and Speller (yes, the one you can't get anymore ). Long Story Short: We did not do as many of these devotions as I had hoped. I think we got about half-way through Genesis. We haven't done any in a long time. I hope to start them up again, because I really like the book. Christian Kids Explore Biology: We have done 2 units of this science, which I think is about 1/4 or 1/3 of the total lessons?
